HORIBA MIRA’s work, centred in its vast grounds, focuses on three key areas: vehicle engineering, test engineering and MIRA Technology Park. It is an impressive environment, combining first-class health and safety and high security with an expansive range of engineering and test facilities.

HORIBA MIRA also welcomes complementary businesses to its Technology Park to create a strong network of services; enabling them to share knowledge and facilities. One of its tenants needed a storage facility to safely house car bodyshells and automotive components on-site.

A trusted partner with innovative solutions

Having a long history of working with Smart-Space, HORIBA MIRA called upon them to find a quite specific solution. “We have worked with Smart-Space for several years and already have a few smaller units on-site” explained Dawn Whittaker, part of the Estates Team.

“On this occasion we worked with Jason and Alex who were really helpful and attentive. ”The space allocated for the storage unit was exposed and subject to the impact of adverse weather conditions. Additionally the ground was freshly rollered and flat but wasn’t suitable for screwing into. So a novel approach of weighting the building with concrete blocks was used to resolve both challenges. As the build area was within a secure compound and close to an existing fence it was necessary to use a cherry picker and scissor lift for access and to complete the build. The install took two weeks and resulted in a secure, weather-proof solution.

As the facility is used only during the daytime it offers basic storage provision without lighting, heating or power. Its PVC inflated roof provides lots of natural light that perfectly suits its daytime use.

Polite, friendly and quick

“Our gatehouse security team is extremely busy as they are responsible for hundreds of visitors accessing the premises every week. It was great to hear that they took the time to pass on their appreciation of the Smart-Space installation team, led by Dave Ball, who were polite and easy to deal with each day they attended site” commented Dawn. The build was straightforward and provides a storage space that the client is delighted with. Completed within 3 months from start to finish, the unit is now in use and making sure its contents are well-protected and easy to locate.
