Smart-Space has completed a permanent production and storage facility for Luxonic at the lighting specialist's head office, manufacturing and innovation centre in Basingstoke.
Luxonic's lighting design and manufacture operation continues to grow exponentially across a number of markets including education, retail, industrial and healthcare. The company was outgrowing their existing facilities and needed to expand and to improve production efficiency.
The new 35-metre by 30-metre facility is a fully insulated, composite-clad steel building, with a 500-square-metre mezzanine floor and a double-door unloading area. The building contains racking and bulk storage areas, offices and restrooms, as well as product-orientated wiring cells situated underneath the mezzanine floor.
Work in the new cells includes the creation of luminaires for Asda and continues Luxonic’s rollout of its energy efficient HI-MAX® LED systems in Pets at Home buildings across the UK.
The new building gives customers the chance to see the products in action at the same time.
Luxonic operations director Alan Ayres explains "as well as being a warehouse and a shop floor, the new facility is an excellent showroom for us."
The five-month full design and build project entailed the removal and leveling of an unused car park prior to the building's construction and the creation of new parking facilities after its development.
Permanent steel structure for production and storage
"Selecting a steel-clad building was down to three main criteria - speed of construction, cost and ability to insulate extremely well," says Alan Ayres, Luxonic operations director.
"Smart-Space listened to what we wanted and delivered on all counts. The project was well managed and the facility was well constructed. It suits our purposes down to the ground."
