  • 1985 Founded by Antony Hunt as a marquee hire company

    After leaving school at 16, Antony started out with one canvas marquee, for fetes and garden parties

  • 1987 Company incorporated as Concorde Marquees Ltd

    Antony developed the business and began manufacturing, providing marquees for weddings and balls.

  • 1992 Jennie Hunt joins the business

    With a background in IT systems development, Jennie started introducing the systems which provided the platform for the business to evolve into what it is today.

  • 1993 Corporate Structures incorporated

    The business started to move away from the domestic market to capitalise on the developing area of corporate events, product launches and promotions

  • 1995 Jason Lynock (Sales Director) starts as a marquee erector

    Jason followed his dad, Bob, into the business, starting as a trainee marquee erector. Antony recognised his potential and Jason developed into a key part of the business - Antony's 'right hand man'

  • 2001 First long term temporary building hire for Tesco at Brent Cross

    In response to an enquiry for Christmas stock storage, this first contract triggered a change of direction for the company

  • 2005 Hire starts for our two longest ongoing temporary building hires

    We are often asked 'how long is temporary?' It just goes to show, it can be whatever you want it to be.

  • 2005 Jet2 arrivals lounge at Blackpool airport

    Thinking outside the box - commercial uses as well as industrial

  • 2008 First permanent building supplied

    The next evolution - we introduced permanent steel buildings in recognition that, as flexible as they are, we could offer more than just temporary buildings to ensure the customer has the best possible solution.

  • 2009 Bespoke factory extension

    A colour coordinated custom extension demonstrates the flexibilty of our product range

  • 2011 The Smart-Space team grows

    As the product offerings develop, so does the smart-space team. These are some of our installation teams from 2011; more than half of them are still with us - and all now hold a management position.

  • 2012 Cruise terminal for Liverpool

    Still in place in front of Liverpool's Liver Building, this temporary building welcomes thousands of cruise passengers to Liverpool every year.

  • 2014 First large mono-pitch extension

    A fast build with minimal disruption to the customer's daily activity provided extra space with a bolt to the floor permanent structure

  • 2014 Introduce semi permanent buildings

    To bridge the gap between our temporary and permanent steel buildings, we developed a relocatable structure with steel roof panels on an aluminium framed building

  • 2018 First full turnkey design, build and fit out

    Custom designed 5 bay coach workshop with offices and mezzanine floor

  • 2019 Lee Brightmore (Finance Director) joins the business

    Lee arrives with a wealth of experience to build the finance function and integrate it into all aspects of the business. This is part of the strategy to build a senior management team.

  • 2020 Maxi-space buildings introduced

    A further addition to our product range, now we provide multiple solutions to provide the best result for our clients. The maxi-space is custom manufactured up to a span of 60m and an eaves height of 12m.

  • 2021 New premises purchased at Kingsbury Link

    The company's move to Kingsbury link was a fortunate serendipity to enable us to provide a great environment for our teams whilst also implementing a warehouse system to support us into the future.

  • 2022 Matt Jarvis (Operations Director) joins the business

    Matt arrived at Smart-Space with a background in large commercial organisations and has been pivotal in building the Operations team, increasing headcount and implementing more structured processes.

  • 2022 Smart-Space wins 'School building supplier of the year' award

    We were thrilled to have won this award, particularly because it was voted for by people within the education sector.

  • 2023 Smart-Space workforce goes from strength to strength

    We currently employee around 52 team members across Sales, Operations, Finance, Warehouse and Site teams. We pride ourselves on the way we treat our employees, our longest serving employee has over 28 years' service.
